Top Ten - 1984

Unlike 1985, 1984 was a huge year in rock and metal. Major players populate the list literally from top to bottom. And I believe this is the strongest top ten so far, with eight albums above a 90 rating (rounding up, of course), and a ninth just barely missing the cut. Even more impressive is that out of the 70 albums I rated, 40 top an 80 rating.

Rock Island - Chapter Eleven

There's not much to do on the island. Everyone is bored and tempers are starting to run high. The captain suggests everyone make up a game or activity. Some of the better ideas are golf clubs made from clam shells and bamboo with avocado pit golf balls, a badminton net and rackets (Roy says he can make the rackets, but he suggests you not ask how he makes the birdies), a bowling alley with bamboo lanes and coconut bowling balls, and turtle races.

At lunch one day (fish, again; no one wants to eat the turtles), Cinnamon mentions that you haven't finished telling her the songs on your MP3 player. Happily, you finish the list:

Top Ten (+ 15) - Albums by American Bands

I was a little surprised to see I rated over 130 more albums by American bands than British bands (747 to 611). I thought the numbers would be closer. The breakdown was also interesting: only three bands have more than one album listed here (Megadeth and Metal Church each have three; Queensrÿche has two). There are also only three albums from the 70s and 13 from 1990 til now. The other 9 albums were recorded in the 80s.
